This Privacy Policy explains how Mingo ("Mingo," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Mingo app or services (the "Service").

By using Mingo, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

a. Information You Provide

We may collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Name, username, email address
  • Profile information (bio, preferences, photos)
  • Messages and content you choose to share
  • Payment-related information (processed by third-party providers)
  • School name, graduation year, and roommate living preferences (e.g., sleep schedule, cleanliness, noise tolerance, guest preferences, room temperature, alcohol and smoking preferences)

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide.

All information on Mingo is provided voluntarily by users. Mingo does not access, import, or retrieve any data from university systems, student information systems, housing portals, or educational records maintained by any institution.

b. Information Collected Automatically

When you use Mingo, we may automatically collect:

  • Device information (device type, operating system)
  • App usage data
  • IP address and approximate location
  • Log data and crash reports

This information helps us operate, maintain, and improve the Service.

c. Information from Third Parties

We may receive information from:

  • App stores (Apple, Google)
  • Payment processors
  • Analytics and infrastructure providers

We do not control how third parties collect or use your data.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Operate and maintain Mingo

We are not responsible for how other users handle information you share with them.

4. User Interactions & Messages

Messages and interactions occur between users. Mingo:

  • Does not monitor private communications routinely
  • Is not responsible for user behavior or content
  • May review content in response to reports or legal requirements

You share information with other users at your own risk.

5. Payments

Payments are processed by third-party providers (such as Apple or Google). Mingo does not store full payment card details. Payment information is handled according to the provider's privacy policies.

6. Data Retention

We retain information:

  • For as long as your account is active
  • As needed to provide the Service
  • To comply with legal obligations
  • To resolve disputes and enforce agreements

We may retain limited information after account deletion where required by law or legitimate business purposes.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information.

Mingo's infrastructure is hosted on Google Cloud Platform / Firebase, which maintains industry-standard security certifications including SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3, and ISO 27001 compliance.

However, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use Mingo at your own risk.

8. International Use

Mingo operates globally. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your residence, including the United States. By using Mingo, you consent to these transfers.

9. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Object to certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where applicable

You can manage most information through your account settings or by contacting us.

10. Children's Privacy

Mingo is not intended for children under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 17. If we become aware of such data, we will delete it promptly.

11. FERPA & Educational Records

Mingo is not an educational institution and does not maintain education records as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Mingo operates independently of any university, college, or educational institution.

All data collected by Mingo is provided voluntarily by users through the Mingo app. Mingo does not receive, access, or store any records from university student information systems, housing portals, enrollment databases, or any other institutional data source.

Universities or institutions that share Mingo as a resource do not transfer any student data to Mingo by doing so, and no data-sharing agreement between Mingo and any institution exists or is required for users to access the Service.

12. Third-Party Links & Services

Mingo may contain links to third-party sites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. Your interactions with third parties are governed by their policies.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of Mingo after changes means you accept the updated policy.
